PRESS RELEASE- The W.T.F.L. Announces the Inaugural "Legacy Bowl" The Women’s Tackle Football League (WTFL) has selected Brookings, South Dakota to be the site of theleague’s championship game, the “Legacy Bowl”. The game is scheduled for July 31st, 2021. Based in Jacksonville, Florida. The Women’s Tackle Football League was created by Mr. Terry McGriff tofurther develop women’s tackle football. The league was geared up to play its inaugural season in 2020, butCOVID placed those plans on hold. The league currently has 15 teams from across the country located in 14states, from Florida to Washington State. Brookings is home to the Dakota Dragons, a newly established league member who will begin hosting gamesin 2022. The organization, and team President Courtney Jones, are integral partners in the planning andcoordinating process for the Legacy Bowl festivities. The Dragons, like many teams in the league are a non-profit organization, completely made up of volunteers, whose goal is to provide women in their communitywith a chance to play full-contact tackle football. “I was very impressed by how everything was centrally located and within walking distance or a short drive,”says Terry McGriff, WTFL creator. “Brookings was very welcoming, and I was impressed by how friendlythe people in the area are. We think the Legacy Bowl will have a significant impact on the community and wehave a vision for making it even bigger in the future.” This event is projected to bring in 1200 visitors to the city of Brookings and provide the city with anothertelevised sporting event. In addition to the Legacy Bowl, the WTFL plans to create a week of activities and experiences to mirrorSuperbowl week. Jones is working on a four-day schedule of events spanning July 29h through August 1. Thefour-day event may include activities like a camp for kids in addition to community outreach events.
